Belinda Tynan and Simon Buckingham Shum of the Open University used the MOOC on Learning Analytics to preview some of their thinking around analytics.

MOOCs, they argue, are the forcing ground in which all solutions to learning analytics problems will best be solved. Makes sense: the challenges of large cohorts, online environments, the non-critical outcomes and the opportunities of unified data sources make MOOCs a perfect laboratory.
